    Hi all,

I have been having some trouble with dampness in my gun safe . Each and every time i thoroughly clean my shotgun and rifle before placing them back in the safe but yet when i return to use them again there is spots of rust .

    Thanks G H

you should be able to get some silica gel pouches(same sort that comes in shoe boxes ect) from your local gun dealer, had similar prob myself a while back and this did the trick for me

i had the same problem, and took the safe of the wall and put very thin 3mm polystyrene behind it bolted it back on also lined the inside in 3mm polystyrene and because my safe was close enough to a socket i also put a 11 " by 11" heat mat on the floor, problem solved

the heat mat is a good idea might try that

i had the same problem so put a 30mm rigid insulation board at the back of the safe and used a 5mm foil back insulation on the inside and now theirs no problem,ps i used 100mm rawl bolt anchors to make sure it wasnt goin any where:D

heres somethin else that mite help http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p4712.m570.l1313&_nkw=Gun+Safe+Dehumidifier&_sacat=See-All-Categories

You want to make sure you do not have the area too dry which could do more damage than dampness/rust. It could dry out the wood too quickly and it may crack/shrink. If the safe is secured in a place where temperature changes hot then cool it would cause condensation. If possible (and I say if:D) drill one or two small holes on bottom right of safe and and same on top left it will help air circulate.

I keep mine in the bed beside me and have no issues..........cc30

A light film of oil on the barrels should help - and dont keep unnecessary items in the safe which may hold/introduce moisture...............

Interior Dehumidifier with air freshener, helps stop Damp, Mould, Mildew & Condensation buy in Heatons for 2 Euro's. Small plastic box top half has Silica Gel, Bottom half catches moisture absorbed by the gel, when full of water throw it away last months, great value.

Always have a big size packet of silica gel and remember to reactivate.

You can purchase a heater/humidifier rod as well.

A nice gunsock with silicon works well and protects from bumps and bruises in the case.

Finally, give the gun a wipe inside and out and leave a nice coat of oil on the surface. Other than that, cosmoline and wax paper!
