Immersion Problem

    Hi there,
Having a problem heating water in apartment I've just moved into. I'm not used to immersion style heating at all. As you can see in the pic, it's a timer on the left (behind a plastic case that you can't remove) and there's a boost on the right.
The boost is the one I use if I need shower. But if I put the boost on for, 15, 30, 60 mins-the hot water in shower still only lasts 5 mins.

The circular timer on left, I can't push any of the buttons in as it's behind a case, I can turn the timer alright.

There's also a timer in my bedroom which controls underfloor heating-it's switched to off yet constantly ticks away non stop-driving us mad.

Our landlord doesn't seem to able to help us.

    Anyone any ideas?

It's prob completely simple and sorry if it is.

Does the plastic cover come off if you turn it anti-clockwise?

No, doesn't seem to come off at all.

turn the dial until the time arrow points to the correct time
turn button to the on position
your immersion should heat the tank overnight on the cheap electricity rate
this should give you a full tank of hot water
the boost button is only for a top up of a small amount of water

the other timer is probably old and making excessive noise
a replacement would sort this out

Meercat is right with his advice,

also check that the thermostat on the side ofthe cylinder is set to 60 or 65 degrees - only getting 5 minutes of a shower sounds a bit suspect, and maybe it's not heating to full temperature...

Cheers Meercat and Dardania. Both were correct. Knew it would be something completely simple alright.

Must get the ticking timer in the bedroom looked at. Drive ya bonkers!
