They say every self respecting petrol head needs to own an Alpha at one stage in their car career, I'm on the verge of buying an Alpha 159 ti, 1.9 Diesel 16v.....

Anyone have experience with 159's or ti's in particular?

Have Alpha's thrown off the troublesome name yet?

What the Alfa Romeo name has been replaced by Alpha to be less troublesome?

As for your question I've heard mixed reports about them, everything from great to ****e

I drove one when they first came out. While good, I felt it was only an incremental improvement over the 159. There is a definite feel-good quality to any Alfa Romeo for me, though.

They ? You mean the spoilt rich overgrown British public schoolboys on top gear say you have to. Also I don't think they meant diesel mile plodders. Nice looking motor though and a great change from the group think Passat/Mondeo/A4/BMW/Avensis/Octavia.

Yours is in the same vein...

Afaik the 150 has swirl flap issues but that may be corrected on later models. Gorgeous looking cars cars and TI spec shows the shape at it's best. If you could at all try for a 2.4 but the 1.9 is a very good engine. Much better than the equivalent VAG of the same era. Nice out of the box choice OP.

There is a 2010 Alfa Romeo 159 estate in our house now, it was bought last year and has the 1.9JTDM 16v engine and truth be told it is terrific! Lovely punchy diesel engine with great turbo kick low down. Economy hangs around 45 mpg and drops to about 38-40mpg around town.

It has a three year warranty on it too, but safe to say 25000km in and not a single problem,it had an oil change the other week but it was probably needed. Tyres are excellent too showing little signs of wear which is surprising!

The interior is fantastic too, red leather inside and a well built dashboard angled towards the driver make it feel really special.

It is the third Alfa we have had and we are very impressed with the reliability and general quality of the car so far.

I'd actually look for a 2.0JTDm if possible - not launched over here as far as I'm aware, but available in the UK. Found it to be a good drive, and more efficient/cost effective to run than the 1.9 (and certainly the 2.4).

UK would be your best bet for a decent range of Ti's.

Should expect to pay about €16000 all in for a good 2 year old 1.9 Ti or about 14000 for a 2.4 3 year old Ti

Asked the same question 6 months ago on here.
Concensus was that the engine (1.9) suffers from egr valve issues that are cheap enough fixed and swirl flap problems that are not.

The conclusion I came to was that there are better cars our there for the same sort of money.

If the 2.0 Ti was 4K chearper than an E90 M Sport I'd take a punt on one but they are actually more expensive to land.

2.0 JTDm is a revised version of the old 1.9 block. 2.0 has been on sale in the Opel Insignia for the last 2 years. Alfa 159 was also given subtle revisions in mid 2009 which pushed the diesels from Tax Band C to Tax Band B. Handling was also improved across the range.

Not a ti model but not bad

Is it a zombie thread if the OP is back asking the same question? lol

I got to sit in one last weekend (thanks pred racer!) and I would actually kill a man to own one. Gorgeous motor.
