I never got this rubbish of reduced sentences for good behaviour. Surely behaving yourself while in jail is the minimum requirement? You act up , you get time addded on. You dont, you should serve your full sentence and get out at the end of it.

We be kicked out of the EU if it was introduced,in 1985 a garda killer was sentenced to death,changed to 40 years on advice of attorney general.

Even if was introduced,it would not stop crime,like drug war,you knock one out another takes their place as quick.

I agree with the general sentiment of your post...but just sending them to prison costs a lot of money.....prisoners should have to work to pay for their stay + keep their minds occupied and leave them less likely to want to come back.

I think 25 years is a bit long for rape, but I think it should carry a mandatory jail sentence.

It's ridiculously long for looting. What if someone's just taking a TV or a pair or shoes? 25 years for that!?

I think murder should be punished with life imprisonment. It's been shown time and again that the death penalty doesn't act as a deterrent.
A prisoner for life suffers, but if they're dead then that's it, there's no real punishment.

The death penalty just speaks to society's sense of outrage over people who commit crimes, and this sense is quite fickle.
Look at how many more people have been talking about scumbags and the death penalty in the last few days.
