Buying a hunting dog

    hi,
    just wondering if anyone knew how much around the terriers you see at game fairs in the car parks are and if that would be a good place to get a good working one for foxes etc.


    oh ya out of curiosity which breed suits best for that kind of work. i like the patterdale myself but if anyone knows of any others that basically go into and hunt cover well, let me know.

    I would go for the patterdale they are a good breed of terrier I think the best to be honest you'll go through less pups/dogs in this breed to find a good one great earth dogs good for fox in cover to. My advice to you is stay away from the game fairs and the like,s god knows what your buying. Try go on a dig if possible some guy's will let you see the parents of the pups their selling work thats your best start their the guys you want to deal with. My advice to you if it worth anything is never never buy a pup with out seen both parents working well and even at that its no guarentee... (Hope its helpfull)

    Fallow is fairly spot on make sure you see the parents working. Cost wise it will vary but a well bred pup that is slightly more expensive will cost you less in the end. Good dogs and bad dogs all cost the same to feed and keep.
