Using a hard drive as a PVR on Sony tv.

Hey all, I recently bought a Sony (KDL-24EX320) and I can use it as a PVR with an external hard drive. Now, I have a 500GB WD Passport, which I use to play tv shows etc, but the instructions on the tv say to format this in order to use it to record material. It also says it can't be used on a pc once I've done this.

So, my question is - is there a way around this so I can use my hard drive to record and watch shows or should I just go and buy another one to use with the tv?

Mods, if this is in the wrong section, please move. Thanks!

Get another drive, the TV clearly uses a different file-system to your pc.

However if you are adamant you could find out what format the tv changes the drive to and see if you can get an emulator for your PC. If its a common one like EXT4 then it shouldnt be too much of an issue but you will need to install this software on every pc you want to use it with.

Thanks for that Fionny, I guess I knew that, but was trying to save a few bob:o I knew about the different types of files used for video, but must go and educate myself about file systems.
