Amazon UK stops sale of 'self defence items'

Stuff like extendible nightsticks and kubotans. All perfectly legal in the UK (at least until nanny state bans them). Presumably as Amazon is profit driven they must be under pressure to stop the sale of these items. After all, the British nanny state has made it clear that they do not want people to defend their families and property (a job the police obviously can't or won't do) and just roll over.

    How does it make sense?.

these would be great weapons to use and not defend with sooo there you go. Id say thats why they have been removed.

It seems to me that periods of lawlessness are precisely the times when people might have greater need of such items.

Given the propensity of police to carry them, they would appear to be quite serviceable defense items. Plus, even better tools such as firearms or tasers are prohibited as a general rule, so the sticks are the next best thing.

    NTM

That is an absurd reason. The rioters/thugs/social degenerates are already tooled up. They don't need to go on Amazon to do it.

    ah dont be dizzy
this is Amazon covering its ass. No different from a person, its just a business doing it in this case.

They want to be officially seen as stopping the sale of such weapons during the riots. Lets face facts, theres going to be a certain percentage of idiots who'll be pointing figers  always is in this world ... "sure that amazon thing was selling those weapons!" etc etc. They just dont want any bad press what so ever.

Baseball bats are still for sale (but mostly sold out) so removing a kubotan seems fairly pointless.

It's like removing pocket knives but still selling machetes.

It seems to me that periods of lawlessness are precisely the times when people might have greater need of such items.
These items won't make it to the customers on time to defend themselves before these riots are over, I hope.
However when they do arrive they'll help to increase the number of weapons available in a household when there is another riot (or more likely to be used by or against the resident during a burglary).

I do understand why people would buy weapons, it's just that they won't be trained to use them and will probably make things worse.
Also, using the weapon incorrectly is more likely to cause more harm than what the home-owner originally intended.
For instance kill someone rather than knock them out.

I understand your point. However it requires some confidence in civil authorities to keep order.

I'm sticking with my friend mossberg.

Why do you so hope? Do you think being able to defend yourself is wrong?

It is true that they probably won't make it on time to help with this instance, but there's no use-by date on the things, so I'm sure it'll come in handy next time. Sadly, human nature is such that often it takes a harsh lesson such as "Damnit, I really wish now that I had invested in.... (Fire extinguishers, jump cables, whatever)" before people prepare for the next event.
However when they do arrive they'll help to increase the number of weapons available in a household when there is another riot (or more likely to be used by or against the resident during a burglary).

You make that seem like a bad thing.

Not my problem. Not the home-owner's problem either. Fortunately, despite occasional exaggerative hand-wringing, the laws are strongly in favour of a homeowner acting within reasonable belief. If an attacker doesn't want to run the risk of being killed vice knocked out, maybe he should choose another hobby.

Anyone that breaks into someone else's house or business is fair game, anyone who tries to carjack someone else is also fair game. If they get killed in the process so what?. Proper justice served imo.
