As already mentioned which model and year, there were quite a few different models over the years?

Depends on which year your talking about, but personally speaking the model from'96 to 2002 is extremely reliable. Had 2 and never a day came that they failed to start.

Injector seals can go in them. Any reason why a diesel instead of a petrol?

i travel over 400 km a week. is fixing Injector seals expensive to fix?

1.4 TDCi engine is built in conjuction with Peugeot and Citroen, it has known issues with injector seals. The rest of the car itself is very reliable and they are well put together.

400km is roughly 250miles which is 13,000 miles per year, that really isn't diesel mileage. You need to be doing upwards of 18k or 20k miles per year to justify buying a modern diesel these days considering the potential expensive repair bills they come with.

At 13k miles per year you should be looking at the 1.25 litre Fiesta. It will be more reliable.

well in all fairness you should have stated that from the outset. The way you structured your query would lead most people to assume you were thinking of buying one;)
I think you should declare what, if any, trouble you are having with the car that prompted you to pose the question after 2 years of ownership? Or are you just coming out of warranty and debating about keeping/selling?

the nct is coming up soon on the car and im trying to decide weather should i sell up cause what happens is the car won't start but if you leave it 5 minutes after the 1st attempt the car starts. but but if you didn't leave a few minutes it wont start. it only happened three times in the last year. it seems to only happen only if the engine is warm. i went to the mechanic after the second time and he couldn't find anything wrong with it. any ideas???

    Not an expert but:
    EGR valve or engine sensor?

I'd suggest bringing the car to a mechanic who has some sort of fault code reader. Your car's ECU or computer should have recorded a fault code which once read by a diagnostic computer should give an indication as to where the problem is. Otherwise you are just looking in the dark.

if its not looked at some where in the near future could it lead to other problems?

Since when is 250 miles per week small mileage?

He didn't say small mileage, but it certainly isn't diesel mileage. Especially for modern diesels anyway.

Ya would want to get it hooked up to ford IDS to get a proper look.
Was the engine turning over when you were trying to start it or was there nothing there at all?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 139 ✭✭phonejacker
