After always been an electric shaver user I have been reading the threads here for a while and decided to buy the basic starter kit from shaving.ie. I got the Muhle R89 with it.
Now I have been using it for about a week now and I think I'm starting to get the hang of it. Last night was the first time I didn't nick myself :D
However I find it very hard to get a smooth finish on the chin and along the jaw bone.
Apart from this I find it is a nicer finish than the electric shave although if I'm honest I was expecting better. Now I know this is probably down to bad technique either in preparation or in the shaving itself and I'm still learning. I'm still testing the sample blades so I may not still have found the right one for me.
Just thought I'd share my experiences so far.

Ah it takes a while to get your technique right, and then your prefered blades, it took me nearly 6 months of trying different blades before finding whats best for me.
Incidently I shave with silcox base in the shower when my skin is good and supple and never have any issues, always a clean smooth shave.

Right on both counts. Technique and blade. Jumping from elecric to de is going to mean a learning period with lots of nicks and leftover stubble.

If you were even moving from shaving regularly with the fusion you'd have most of the techniques down with more of an adjustment period.

Proper wet shaving is almost like an artform. For most of us here who really love it it's almost ritualistic. Don't give up on it. When you're past the stage of defacing yourself it's enjoyable and relaxing, and better for your skin. You'll look younger longer.

Finally, check out a guy called mantic59 on YouTube. I'd link you some videos but I'm on the iPod. He's got tutorials on everything wet shaving incl beginners de, and he can be very funny.

    Good luck.
