Have a 98 Mazda mx5 mk1, 1.6

Have a 98 Mazda mx5 mk1, 1.6,

Their is a trickly squeaking sound (best way I can describe it) when you rev the engine... is not their all the time, just sometimes when you rev the engine. Not sure if its only when engine is cold, pretty sure Ive heard it when the car has been running for a while.

Any ideas?

Just had car serviced 2 weeks ago, has started since then. Got rear break calliper, new front tires and wheel alignment done a week ago, noticed it straight after this, dont tink its got anything to do with it.

The water pumps in these squeak when they're gone. You can rock the pulley to check for play.

If it needs replacing it's a timing belt off job so not the cheapest. Fingers crossed it's just a fan belt.

The more I think of it, it does sound like water pump, as it sounds like a sloshing sound aswell.

Is this serious? or urgent to get done? if it goes does it damage car etc

Did you check the bearings by rocking the water pump as suggested?
