Download free from the right app store for your phone. From the Apple App Store and Android Market now. It'll be available on BlackBerry App World, Nokia and Windows Phone 7 in the next few days. More info on the ESPN Goals website.

Warning! Watching videos can eat into your data allowance and usage beyond that can be very pricey, so try to use a free wi-fi hot spot (or your home broadband) if possible

Do you have direct link to the app or the link on the website?

I think this might be the android one.

Just wary of android apps so want to be sure to get the right one!

For those of you with rooted phones:
    Download Market Access

    http://amip.tools-for.net/wiki/android/marketaccess

Open it, allow superuser access, go to custom and type 23430 (T-Mobile UK), load Market and download

Could someone post a link to download the .apk for those with unrooted phones? Or would that even work?

    Should work for unrooted phones.

I've heard whispers that you can download the app but it won't let you watch goals.

I was chatting a lad on Twitter Yesterday who said Setanta are releasing a similar app for something like 7 quid. You can watch the goal around 30 seconds after its scored aswell as highlights.

If that's how the app actually works, I'll chance it for €7 for a season.....

For people using iTunes who don't have a UK itunes account...

Log out of iTunes. Go to the UK iTunes store (click on the flag on the bottom right of the page and select the UK). Go to apps, choose to download the ESPN app, which is free, and it will allow you to open an account without entering your credit card details. Just find and copy and paste a real UK address.

If you ever want to update the app/check if it has been updated after you've downloaded it, just login using your UK account and click 'check for updates'.

The browser market was saying that it wasn't compatible with my HTC desire, citing that it wasn't available in my country. I used market access and installed it. Now it says that it's available, compatible and installed.:D

Yeah, I think it might need a UK Phone Number... its one of the permissions it asks for on installation.

It says I'm unable to connect to server, but I'm gonna wait until Saturday. See how it pans out

    - Android btw..

I've had no real problems with the app since I installed it. It hasn't asked me for a phone number either.
I opened it, and i asked me if I wanted to chose my favorite team. I went to watch an intro video but it says that there was a error trying to retrieve the video. It says, 'Videos Coming Soon' under Menu->videos.

I used the Market access route.

cant seem to bypass the credit card section without my card details, put in my old uk address but keeps sending me back, am i missing something

I don't think its going to work, content available only for uk, isn't there websites that have all the goals?

For whatever reason it didn't ask for that on the iPhone version.

But the more I think about it the more I think this won't work for us unless we're on a UK network at the time. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Shouldn't be happening. Log out and go to the Uk store as before. Before you do anything else attempt to download the free ESPN goals app. It should then ask you to create an account which won't require CC details as you're downloading a free app.

Can you watch the "Welcome to ESPN Goals" video on the main screen of the App?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 553 ✭✭✭TakeTheVeil

And to clarify.. It didn't ask me for my number, but on installation you have to grant the application permission to,
    1) Network Communication (full internet access)
    2) Service that cost you money (directly call phone numbers)
    3) Phone calls (read phone state and identity)

So I assume the application will be able to identify non-UK phones and geo-block people outside the UK. I hope not though, and I'll wait until Saturday to see. Sounds like a great app..

please can someone tell me how to get espn goals on my blackberry storm it says on espn website you can get it from the store but cant find it on website or app on my phone. thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,923 ✭✭✭kearneybobs

It doesn't look like it will be able to run here in Ireland. I was chatting to a guy from digitalspy.ie and he said ESPN woulldn't be drawn on whether or when it might become available in the Rep of Ireland. I'll keep it installed just in case, but I doubt it will work at all for us in the Rep of Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,339 ✭✭✭brophs

Yeah, it seems not to be working unless you're using a UK number. Hopefully that changes, though I'm not holding out too much hope.

i emailed them and ask them why the videos on it wouldnt work.they asked me what type of phone i had and what error number i was getting.they said they would get back to me and i havent heard from them since.
so even if you go and pay for it it wont work here in ireland?

This is what appears on my screen if i try to play a video - e.g. ESPN Monday Review.
Error retrieving data from the server. The server may be facing a temporary issue. Please retry after some time or try accessing other sections. (Error Code: 1024)

I installed it using the link posted here

    error 1024 grr!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,673 ✭✭✭s_carnage

I'd say this will soon be available in Ireland as they seem to be sponsoring the Newstalk sports show on Sundays so it would be pointless for them to sponsor that if the app wasn't available in Ireland.

Just wondering did anyone get this to work in the end?

It is a pity they don't say this when promoting it on television.
