I need a 14'' laptop with 4gb ram and a good graphics card. It's not as easy as I thought it would be to meet these specs. Any suggestions?

Are you planning to game on the laptop and to what level (ie. what games, minimum settings you want, minium fps you will accept etc)?

Im going to hazard a guess and say you want to game. If its for other work (photoshop etc) you can get away with alot lower cards and possible even the intergrated snadybrige gpu.

For light gaming or for older generation games the 520m/6470 which will probably suffice. Or even better look for an older HD 5650 (overclocks excellently).

For mid gaming I wouldnt take anything less than the 540m/6570. Should play anythging pre 2011 at high->max settings, and play newest releases at mid-high settings.

Anything heavier or planning to play some of the more challenging games above high settings (like crysis 2 or Risen) then you going to have to shell out for a 555M or higher... dont think there is much in the 14invh that goes above the MX15 with the 555M tbh, and even that will struggle.

Plenty of 14inch options though -

Good list here of new generation sandybridge models:

Pleanty of other options with the first gen i-core and the Nvidia 4XX series or Radeon 5XXX series which you may be able to pick up cheaper and getter a better performance to price ratio. Options here would include HP envy 14, Acer 4820Tg, Asus U series etc.

Personally I may keep an eye out for the uk release of the new asus U46SV..out in Europe already and pretty much a big contender for the 14inch crown.

    Thanks Guys

The Alienware would be a bit of overkill for me.
The Sony Looks Excellent, I will look further into this.
Dazzday, I will mostly be using this for work with a bit of photo/web work. I will also be doing some video editing so need a reasonbly good spec. Tiny amount of gaming :o) Thanks for the detail!
