    Hi there,
Quick queston, Is it possible to host a website on a USB stick. The reason I am asking, I would like to host a Wiki on my USB drive. I was think of using the mediawiki software.

For this I need a webserver and a database server.

Are there many differences in using IIS Vs Apache? and is it possible to run mysql on a USB drive.

I have tried running some services that ran apache and mysql from my USB drive but they would not start.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated.

You likely won't be able to do it with the stock software as they'll be set up to run off a computer, but you should be able to find a portable WAMP stack to run off the USB stick. Can't say I've tried any to recommend though.

Thanks, I will have a search around.

    Portable XAMPP

I have not used it personally but I know people who have and recommend it.

Thanks, I tried the full version and could not get it to work. I tried looking for the lite version. Hopefully this will do the trick

I managed to get this running.

I went to http://www.chsoftware.net/en/mowes/mowesmixer/mowesmixer.htm and this site allows you to choose a version of apache, mysql and php along with some application software. The site then puts it into a package that you download and install. It was very handy to use.
