Hi, I am posting this here as I wish to remain anonymous, hope that is ok.

Myself and my partner have a will made naming people as the carers for our children should anything happen to us.

We need to change this but at the moment we cannot afford to go back to the solicitor to change this, could we give a letter to the people that we would now wish to take care of our children explaining that we now want them to be the carers and that we want that letter to overrule the will. Would something like this stand up in court in if anything were to happen to us in the meantime?

    Thanks everyone

I'd imagine you can just make another will and insert a clause revoking all previous wills.

This will can be done once you follow the proper procedures. There are books available in all good book shops which will help you to do same.

+1 You don't even need a guide book, you said the original will was drawn up by a solicitor so just duplicate the existing will, change the names of the guardians, sign it in the presence of two adult witnesses (who cannot be beneficiaries or the spouses of beneficiaries) and you're done.

The two witnesses have to sign in your presence, just make sure that both of them see you sign it and then get them to sign as witnesses immediately after you.

And make sure you insert the clause about revoking all previous wills
