Where do I stand here?

Ok I sold a dress lastmonth for about €60. Posted it and about 2 weeks ago got a email from the seller in the UK saying she still hasn't recieved it. I sent it through standard post and lost the tracking/receipt slip. ( fantastic!:( )

Anyway I asked her to contact her post office or sorting office and she came back to me today saying they found the envelope( she described it ) but with no dress inside.

Where do I stand here ? Am I liable to refund her? She seems genuine and has loads of 100% feedback. But at the end of the day I have posted it! I've sold loads of items and never had any problems.

    What do you think ?

    Help please

    What do you think ?

I think this is pure negligence on the Post office / sorting office .- They admit to the buyer that they have an envelope and nothing in it .

In my opinion , it is unlikely that the post office will admit to this ., and I believe that the buyer is not telling the truth .

However , the buyer will open a case with eBay / paypal , and you will more than likely lose .

100's of positive feedback is not a good reference , because most sellers leave positive feedback immediately upon receiving payment .

As the seller, you are liable for it until the item is confirmed as delivered. You'll have no insurance from standard post either, so you might as well just refund the buyer and learn from it.

Registered with adequate insurance is the only way to send something unless you're prepared to lose out on the cost of it. For anything of much value, you should use registered post. If you sell low valued items, then the cost probably wouldn't be worth it, especially if selling large volumes.

Did you u provide the seller with the option of registering the dress?
    Did they decline?

Your problem if they declined is that you've no proof of postgage. In which case you will need to refund them

the only thing i can think of is to see if the post office will re-issue a receipt if you pay the postage by laser / credit card

A postal receipt is no good to you anyway. It was sent standard (not registered) so therefore it's gone.
