Dealer markup on used cars

I want to sell my jeep (commercial landcruiser LWB perfect cond). Have done all my research on autotrader and carzone - looked across my year at all the cars on the market, mileage and price to find pretty accurately what the market says right now that my car is worth (obviously less a reduction at the point of sale)

What I was wondering was how much under this value a dealer will give me for it. What kind of margin will they be looking for to flip it?

(I searched for a similar thread but couldnt find one. Apologies if I've missed it)

    Thanks

sorry, but i doubt you'll find a dealer to take it unless its at a price that he simply cannot refuse.

Putting up that detail is against the charter isnt it???

(but at the risk of a ban, 2006, 50k miles, fully serviced this week, LWB, no VAT receipt (is that important????)) Most on the market are from dealers

Not sure, I Think linking to an ad is.

Would it not be easier to try and sell the thing privately, no dealer will want to take that in unless you are buying something off him.

I will sell privately. I was just wondering seeing as it would obviously be easier to take to a dealer. But seems like a non runner judging by these replies

Vat not an issue for a private buyer, but lack of a vat docket makes it 21% more expensive to anyone who could claim it back.

I'm gonna stick my neck out and guess a garage would offer about 9k

I know of 4 SWB 06 landcruisers that were sold out of liquidated construction companies about 6 months ago. They took between 8200 & 8900 for them depending on condition.

Oh if that's where the market is I'm not going to sell it. Just keep it until it doesn't run any more.

I'm guessing there is a thread on whether prices on carzone are realistic then. Because the average px for a 2006 was way above that!

I'd guess you could get 11 for it from advertising it provided its mint and has had the necessary recall work done on the injectors etc

Prices on carzone are higher because most of the cars for sale are by dealers so the quoted price includes warranty, profit margin and something for negotiation so overall a bigger layer of fat than you'd see in a private sale. The minute you walk in the door and mention that you're paying cash (no trade-in) the price will drop.

Is the injector issue really worth worrying about. If it runs smooth and tows uphill sweetly, the consensus on the toyota landcruiser owners club seems to be that any issues are the exception rather than the rule, and not really worth worrying about

It's very important, even if the injectors themselves function ok, the injector seals need replacement more often than not and the gauze on the oil pick up in the sump needs to be cleared

Toyota are covering a lot of these outside warranty. Got an 06 done last year.

Thanks for that, guys. I was looking at €12k, given that it is mint and only €50k miles, so I wasnt a million miles away.

Unless of course I have to spend a fortune on this injector thing.

I sold a 07 LWB Cruiser with similar mileage recently, and got 12750 in the trade for it.

I'd be guessing a year back from that would be around 9/10k.

I probably won't bother then, especially with the fix being needed. I'll stick it up for 12. If someone wants it, then great. Otherwise im not fussed and I'll just keep it going

Just to repeat, the warranty work should be free. If the oil pick up is done they replace the oil for free too. Worth checking with your dealer if you can get it.

Maybe some of our resident toyota guys can shed more light on this
