Hi, I'm doing a bit of bunny bashing and I'm wondering what you all use for the job?

Any types that stand out? Take in the aul cost factor aswell :p
I'm using CCI subs atm and I find them fairly good, 12 euro per 100 is an ok price too.
    Thanks.

I personally use Eley Sub-Sonic's and find them great,

Have used the Winchester Sub's too and they aint bad either.

I use the same - but the Eley subs Xtra which I use are usually a bit more expensive than other .22 LR ammo.

I found the Remington subs unreliable....lots of 'duds'.

I got that with the Remington subs too. The only misfires/duds I've ever had have been Remmys. That doesn't mean much though as I haven't been shooting long.

My ruger 10/22likes the following and I have noticed there is negligible difference in sighting

eley, winchester and cci subs. Remingtons string like mad

winchester subs 'nd a CZ 22lr is a deadley combo on bunnies, and as Poulo says at 6eu a pop for 50 you can bate away all day :D

Been using RWS predominately for long time now, found them to be most consistent. Great value too @ 5.50 per 50 or 50eu per brick

Thats gas, my CZ HATES winchester subs, but she loves Lapua. A euro more per box than the winchester but well worth it. I find the winchesters to be a bit dirty and whether I have a prob with the ejector or something they are forever getting caught in the chamber. The lapuas are all shiny and lubed... you cant bate a bit of lube. :P

I have had good results with CCI, Aquila, Winchester, American Eagle, and the Rem Hyper Velocity.

The Rem Thunderbolts can be hit or miss, but at the price I pay, that's fine.

The CZ style and varmint both shot Lapua, Eley, and SK subs well, would not group well with HV ammo.
The custom Ruger 10/22 will take Winchester HP, Eley, Laupa and CCI subs well, again HV never groups.

Yep Eley are filthy. Buy a can of compressed air (less than a €10) in a computer shop very handy to get at the hard to reach bits on the chamber and poweful enough to move the toughest of crap:)

no, not that powerful. i saw a couple of young fox the same evening and i called them both in to about 40y but they ran off when they saw my springer that was sitting tight beside me.

this is an exit wound from a .22lr from 80y

    .
and so i gutted that rabbit and chopped its head off and left it there where i was calling from so that when the fox came back around to investigate he would find something to relate to the calling and hopefully the next night i go out they will come running as the will think its dinner time.

i know they were watching me as i spotted their eyes a couple of times and each time i saw them i gutted a rabbit and left it where they saw me.

i am getting my new .243 at the weekend, so that will be the end of them, hopefully;)

    Thanks everyone,
Nice shots on the rabbits there poulo :)
Tried the Winchesters in the CZ this morning. They're a bit better than the CCI's. Might try the Lapua tomorrow.

alright, heres my stupid question for the night :-) ... when you lads say your gun 'likes' a particular round... how are you judging it... be accuary, distance, velocity etc. Just interested as I have tried a few different combos in my cz .22 and there didnt seem to be to much of a difference in 50 to 75 yards at targets. Although I did find that I had to zero for sub sonics.
    Thanks M

    I mean by accuracy.
I can get a 2 inch grouping with a round my gun doesn't like.
I can get an inch grouping with a round my gun likes.

There's no such thing as a stupid question. :D

Thanks dojojoe... just what I thought alright but this bit is the part I cant get my head around... oh and dont want to hijack the thread... When you put you first shots through and zero'ed... then put your second through and they where out... how do you know its not actually the first brand that was rubbish... ie... say you zeroed with the second brand first!! Hope this makes sense... thanks M

Sorry I let you down. I am getting a sako action rebarreled with a 24" trueflight 1-10 twist. I got a call from Fergal earlier to say he had it ready and test fired for me. All I have to do now is set it into it's stock and I'm away for slates.

When I had my .22lr I judged it by accuracy. Eley subsonics used to be the most consistently accurate bullets through that barrel. Winchester subs would also go to the same point of impact as the Eleys but weren't as accurate as the Winchester groups were larger.

People used to say the Winchester subs had better killing/knockdown power than the Eleys, possibly due to the Winchesters deforming better than the Eleys when they strike the rabbit. That could have been from a slightly larger hollow in the Winchesters compared to the Eleys but I can't remember for sure now.

It all comes down to what your particular rifle "likes". The best way to find out, buy a box of everything you can and try them at your zero range.

Im using RWS subsonic in my CZ.
Very accurate and I shot 3 big fox cubs with them lately.
All one shot kills, 2 of them chest shots at 50 yards and 1 head shot at 65 yards.
