I'm selling my much loved cargobike, simply because I'm buying another one which will accommodate my kids who are now two years older. It's a Bakfiets (long), capable of carrying three children up to about the age of seven. I imported it in Spring 2009 from dutchbike.co.uk and it's specced as per the seven speed long version in this link. I have made two small adjustments to the original spec: I replaced the original rear tire with a Schwalbe Marathon Plus and switched the original 20 tooth rear cog for a 21 tooth version. (I have retained the original should a buyer wish to lower the gearing and I also have an unused 22 tooth version if someone is looking for an even higher gearing.)

(Inevitably) I would describe it as in good to very good condition. I have treated it well and serviced it myself, right down to two annual total overhauls of the hub gears. The only thing that's starting to look worn is the rain canopy but this is purely aesthetic: it still performs its basic function of protecting the kids from the wind and rain admirably.

The sale will include the following accessories in addition to the rain canopy: rain cover, second child bench, Axa wheel lock and extension chain for same. The bike is fitted with a fantastically bright front wheel dynamo LED light.

I purchased it in 2009 for £UK1850 (inc. all the bits). The same retailer is now now selling it for £UK1982. However, Bear cycles are now selling a more or less identical bike in Dublin and they are charging €1990. I've set my asking price at two-thirds of this (lower) price, i.e. €1300.

I recognise that this is not necessarily a bike that everyone will be familiar with so I will facilitate test rides where possible. (I'm based in the Phibsboro area in Dublin). There are loads of photos on the links above of the generic bike but I've attached the only photo I have to hand of my own bike on Dollymount strand.

Finally: yes, it is yellow. I've found this to be a good thing.

Would I happen to see you most mornings on the Ballymun Rd?

That'd be me alright: what are you riding on so I can look out for you?

I believe it is the same bike but although "bakfiets" is sometimes used as a generic term so it may not be absolutely identical. I should stress that the €1690 price is for the bike alone. The canopy and the rest of it are extras and bought separately although I'm not sure how one could use the bike in Irish conditions without them.

I've no kids yet, but if I do, I'll be getting one of these, pure class.

I was in amsterdam testing out different types, and have settled on the version you have (I saw your thread from a couple of years back at the time you bought, that was in no small way a deciding factor!). I'll be back next week, and would like to arrange to look at it, assuming I havent brought one back with me..

I had it feeling it was after our discussions before. I'm usually a lot later for school than yourslef, but I'm usually on a white Bullitt, my son has complained bitterly to me during rain because he doesn't have the canopy LOL.

Actually, I've seen you and your bike heading the opposite way (into town). You've a beautiful machine there but I take the point about the canopy: kind of a dealbreaker give my kids aversion to damp.

Grand so. I do have someone coming over this evening to take a look at it so I'll let you know if it becomes unavailable as a result.

Want, want, want. Can't have, divorce threatened.

Out of interest, where do you keep it, and how long is it?

@Lumen. Apparently it's designed to be kept outside, in part because at 2.6m long most sheds (even in Holland) wouldn't accommodate it. Hence hub gears, a box made of marine-grade ply and - by some distance - the best paint job I've ever encountered. In point of fact I keep mine under cover largely because I had the material to make a waterproof "tent" to hand but I'm guessing it would have withstood direct exposure to the elements pretty well.

And no worries on the marriage-threatening desire. Two work colleagues have already expressed an interest on top of the one or two bites I've had here so I'm guessing someone'll go for it...
