    Hi,

My Iphone was unlocked (confirmed by VF) and I was trying to restore to factory settings on my itunes (as instructed) . .

However, I have to download the most recent patch 4.3.5 and the F**k think keeps saying that my internet connection is timing out (which I find hard to believe). . I googled around and saw that you need to disable firewalls , spyware and defender . . Check . . But still the same poxy problem . .

Is there any other way of just downloading the updates or any other suggestions ?

You can download directly from: http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/

Then restore via iTunes using the Shift-Restore method: http://iphoners.org/shift-restore.itunes/

By the way, you shouldn't need to factory-restore to unlock. Just pop in a non-VF SIM and then sync with iTunes.

    Thanks a mill for that . . Downloading it now . .

I am downloading it to my desktop, I presume I then start the shift/restore method that updates and restores phone to factory settings ?

Also, tried syncing but it didnt work . . VF said that they had confirmed with Apple that the phone is unlocked . . Hopefully the restore method will work!

Yep. Make sure to backup the device before restore - you can do this by right-clicking on your iPhone in the left-hand column in iTunes.

Once you're finished restoring, you can then restore all your settings, messages, etc from the backup.

Sh*t. . My home button is broken so I cant do the shift/restore method . .

I will be fixing home button in next few days, but want to use the phone for calls in the meantime!

Is it possible to do a restore without also updating ?

Ok now Im just completely f**ked off . .

After downloading the update eventually through itunes, I restored the phone. I had to put in previous vodafone sim as it wouldnt recognise the new sim card . .

Uploads and finishes and nothing . . Even though I backed up all my stuff like advised, its completely cleared everything . . oh and the sim card is still locked . .

Dont suppose you have any other ideas?
