Question re ball against the flag

Played a round last night with my brother.
I chipped a shot from about 10 yeards off the green and it ran up to the hole.
When I got to the green, the ball was resting against the flag, as the flag was bent towards the front of the hole. I took the flag out, so my brother could putt, and the ball fell into the hole.
    Now, is this
    • considered to be a penalty
    • is the chip considered to have gone into the hole or
    • Is it a another stroke? (chip + 1 stroke)
    Thanks in advance

As far as i know thats considered in the hole? How else is there a way around it? The other person has to putt and the flag has to come out, the flag is preventing the ball from dropping.

BTW If he didnt give you that in a casual game then hes a right fu**er :)

Thats considered holed with the chip. Once it falls into the hole when removing the flag its considered holed. But if it comes out when removing the flag you play your next shot from where it lies AFAIK.

Moral of the story . Don't let an opponent remove the pin when the ball is hanging ;)

    Hi,

Nice chip. If you hold the pin straight and ball falls into the cup then the hole is completed from the chip, no penalty stroke.

The important part of this, is that the ball has to bottomed out. :D

Not from where it lies (assuming it is moved), you place it on the lip (no penalty).

    All covered under rule 17

Thanks for the replies lads. We counted it as if it had gone in the hole, I was just wondering if that was correct.
    Thanks again
