Receiving through back of grid aerial

    Hi I have a grid aerial faced for Castlebar picking up Saorview but it sometimes breaks up despite having 70 signal quality. I scanned in Maghera which is coming in at 60 signal quality with less break ups. Maghera appears to be coming through the rear of the aerial. If I was to turn the aerial for Maghera would it improve the signal much? I guess what I am wondering is there a big difference in the signal strength coming through the front or back of a grid aerial?

    It should, going by your description of the received signals.

    Depends, though on whether it is actually facing Castlebar, some people get these aerials back-to-front.
    This one is facing 'out' of the screen.

    Thanks. Its definitely facing for Castlebar and it just happens that the back of the aerial is facing for Maghera. Only discovered this when I started getting break ups from Castlebar so did a re-scan and picked up Maghera.

    Myself i am picking up Maghera much stronger then Castlebar the same as you. My Grid is pointed towards Castlebar, but im getting Truskmore which sits behind the Castlebar transmitter as well (I think that's on ch53).

    Where abouts are you located?

    If your having problems with Castlebar (Its a low powered transmitter), Then yes turn your Grid south towards Maghera.

    I am between Balla and Kiltimagh. I am totally blocked from getting Truskmore by a hill. I get picture break ups from both Castlebar and Maghera. The aerial is facing Castlebar so wondering if I face it to Maghera would it solve the picture break ups.
