    Any ideas why

Only started happening yesterday, the rest of the gears seem fine but i've noticed some oil under the gearbox in the driveway today

could be worn gearbox. try figure out, what is going to be cheaper - used gearbox, or reconditioned your old one ?
Actually strange, usually this happening with first gears if gearbox is worn, but if you have less oil than need , then usually 5th gear first suffer from oil starvation, and driving longer distance, may kill 5th gear. first find out where oil is leaking, fix that, and change oil, put good oil, might will help.

    Good luck.

When you are driving and you lift off the accelerator does the gear stick rock back and forward alot?

The rear engine mount is a common failure on Renaults which can cause the engine to move under load and the gears to pop out.

The oil leak wouldn't be unusual for these cars either but is unlikely to be related to the gear issue if the rest of the gears are working normally without noise etc.

had the same problem, turns out renault are known for this.
drain the gearbox oil, take the end cover off the box. the first big nut you see is holding 5th gear cog in place. it is probably loose if so that is your problem.
clean, apply some threadlock and retighten. refill gearbox oil.
    job done.
If that nut not loose the problem is elsewhere.
    Good Luck.

nope gear stick doesn't move in other gears whilst driving

You seem surprised?:P Its a Laguna II presumably?

If its not the engine mount then suddodgers suggestion may well be your problem.
