    Hi,
I've been searching the site for a while now and can't find the answer I'm looking for. I'm just wondering is it possible to receive any other channels apart from the irish ones by using a digital tuner such as elgato's range (http://bit.ly/qFcI1H). I'll only be going for the tuners not the ones that connect into a dish. Is it possible to receive BBC or ITV etc

    Thanks

If you live near the border or on the east coast and have a suitable aerial that can pick up UK terrestrial signals you might be able to pick up Freeview.

Otherwise it will be just Saorview I'm afraid.

Thanks for your help. I live in Cavan which is about 30 odd miles from border. I came across this crowd who are supplying freeview into my area http://bit.ly/nq8RAN. I might give them a ring tomorrow to see if the coverage is any good. Would their ariels be much better than the ones provided in elgato's range?

It's more down to the aerial than the Elgato, if any of your neighbours have freeview then you should be able to receive it. You may need a good external aerial but check locally first.
You'll probably need to rescan the Elgato as well, and change to the UK as your country in the settings, but the irish channels work on a UK scan so that shouldn't be a problem.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I've a MacBook Pro and I'd like to use Saorview on it.

Whats the most basic piece of usb kit I'd need?
Would this little fella do the trick? Elgato EyeTV DTT

    Thanks!

That should be fine, I have the hybrid version and it works great on a MacBook Pro.

I wouldn't need to connect it to any external aerial or roof aerial would I? I think the basic one there would do me fine for looking at the Irish Saorview channels.

Usually you need an external aerial unless you can see the TV mast.
