Replacing an E92 3 series, any suggestions??

    Hello all,

I currently live in the north and drive a 320d coupe. Circumstances will mean that shortly I will be living in the south. My current car is an '07 so is not eligible for the co2 based tax rates in the south.

Therefore I am thinking of a possible replacement.

Must be ecomnomical therefore probably a diesel. I like the car I have but thinking trading up a few years in the same model is a bit of a waste as I could get something more new to me if that makes sense. Maybe a 5 series? Any other suggestions?

    Cheers folks

Be sure if you change cars that you have the new one long enough in the north to avail of the vrt exemption or it could end up very costly.

Budget would be a good idea, maybe 15-18k stg

No special requirements as such, I do like the rwd but was left stuck a few times during the bad ice/snow.

It needs to be relatively quick, wouldn't want any slower than my current car so thinking something that is 2-3litre diesel as I do a not of miles so mpg is important.

    4 or 2 doors

    Thanks

get an 08 335d coupe. It will be a bargain given the vrt exemption. 630 tax which is reasonable for that engine

+1 on that. Will be a nice upgrade from the 320d!

    Would €20k buy a 08 335d these days with a VRT exemption?

Thanks for that, but would be interested if anyone has any other suggestions apart from a 3 series? Would love a 335d but think it's a bit out of my budget ATM.

Looks great but unfortunately too expensive and not an 08 so will have the tax based on engine size :(

Any other suggestions apart from BM. At the minute I am thinking a 520d is the best bet but other options/opinions are welcomed.

    Thanks

If you can bring in your current car VRT-free on a transfer of residence then why would you change now? In any case, the difference in motor tax between an 07 and an 08 is, relatively speaking, peanuts.

    2008 535d gets my vote

I may well do this but I will not be moving for at least 6 months so might make sense to use my vrt exemption on somethng else
