I'm just wondering if The EU is still looking at integrating North African countries
such as Morocco sometime in the near Future.

If so is there any plans for immigration control,as with our open boarder policies it seems it could turn North Africa into Europes open gate

If not(If I'm totally off the ball from what I read before hah)What is being done with countries showing interest in joining the EU that are not physically within Europe but are nearing/neighboring ad have strong European Influence and Heritage and in the near future will/may fit the requirements to join the EU.

    Split into its own thread.

AFAIK, there's no plan to bring the North African countries into the EU. What happens instead is regional joint forums like EuroMed: http://eeas.europa.eu/euromed/index_en.htm

There are several such partnerships: http://ec.europa.eu/ireland/about_the_eu/eu_in_the_world/partnerships/index_en.htm

Despite the uprisings, all of them are a long way from having strong, stable democracies, a pre-requisite of joining the EU. It will be long time until any of them meet the criteria regarding stable democracy, human rights, etc. Also, I can imagine the EU being stricter regarding Economic requirements in the future before letting poorer countries in.

If I remember correctly, Morocco did apply to join the EU a number of years back but was turned down because the member states weren't willing to accept it as it wasn't in Europe. I can't imagine that other North African countries would be considered in that case.

I do remember reading somewhere however that they were in the process of recognizing that it was More culturally European than Africa so that sometime in the future if its economy got to standard it may be.

But again as I'm unsure of the topic it is why I asked :)

If the birth-rates of Europeans continues to drop, i would'nt put it past the eu to bring this to pass. Heaven help us then. The age-distribution graphs of pretty much all Arab and N African countries are a little disturbing to look at when you consider waves of future inward migration.

EU always an attractive prospect as they have nowhere else to turn to

think he said so as he dislikes the idea of native Europeans becoming the minority

Israel is recognised as culturally European, but they're still not allowed membership.

This was a French proposal from the populist Sarkozy, the French never really got over losing North Africa, last time I heard it was put on the backburner due to lack of support with focus moving to Croatia, Serbia. Ukraine seems to be moving back to Russian control but there is strong support within the EU that expansion should end after the Former Yugoslavia is absorbed. Personally I would favour Russia entering the EU but that might never happen as Russians do not consider themselves European.

If Russia entered the EU it would take over.Russia is a union in it's self so theres no need for it to join the EU at any near time at all.

Irish people winge about Germany..Imagine what we'd see in AH about that lol :pac:
