BTEA/College and p/t work??

    Hi guys,
I'm going back to college full-time in September after being out of work since Feb '10. I'm currently on JSA and have applied for all the neccessary grants from the VEC and SW for BTEA. Just waiting on hearing whether I've got them, but subject to all that being ok, I'll be starting college on 12 September. I've also just been offered the chance to work p/t around my timetable (when I know what it is) but I know that I can work p/t but does anyone know how many hours and how much I can earn before I starts to affect benefits and/or my ability to apply for the same thing in year 2 of my course. The guy who's offer me the work says I should check thins out before taking it up because he doesn't want me losing out on being able to get all the funding support again next year. Any pointers/expereince with this?
    Cheers
    Sparky.

I think it is 20 hrs per week.

There is no limit to the number of hours you work or what you earn while in receipt of Back to Education allowance.

So if's that the case, it more then keeping an eye on what I earn across the year so that I'm still eligible for a grant next year..... Anyone know what those limits are? Thanks for the replies.

No limit to the amount of hours but be careful sparky that it does not effect your course.
The max you want to be doing is Sat/Sun so under 20 hrs definitely,it's very hard to combine the both.
If you want to do well you should not be considering anything over 20 hrs a week.

Also be aware since September 2010, you cannot get both the grant and BTEA - its one or the other.
www.studentfinance.ie can be a good guide.

Thanks everyone. Yes I'm aware that I can only get BTEA or the maintenance grant - so the BTEA option is the best from a money point of view. I reckon it's only gonna be about 12 hours a week, but it will of course depend on my timetable on the course and whether it fits around that. Thanks for your help. :)

You can't get monthly payments from the maintencance grant while on BTEA, but you can apply to them for fees :) Most people know that, but I just thought I'd throw it out there!
