    Hi
My husband has a HP laptop. It is nearly 2 years old but it gets some serious useage. Just recently it developed a problem that we can't figure out. When he types M or N key new windows open. Can anyone help?

Could be malware. Download something like Malwarebytes and run the scan to see if it finds anything.

Also could be a broken/dodgy keyboard. If the ctrl button is stuck, any time you press N will open a new window. Not sure why M would do this unless thats broken too. Use the On Screen Keyboard to see if the same thing happens when you press N, M there

    Hi
Tried what you suggested but sorry no good. Husband says could it be an update issue. He said its like you hit the F1 key and voila a new window opens but its doing it with the M and N key.

Is there a Fn key on the laptop?
Check that it's not getting stuck. Certain keys have extra functionality when Fn is pressed (you'll see an extra icon on the keys that do)

    Hi
Tried that, still no good. Its now in danger of being chucked out the window.

    Hi,
What anti virus are you currently using? Just to see if we can definitely say its not virus related.

Oh! an idea just struck me! Have you got a usb keyboard? maybe for a desktop at home? Plug it into the laptop and press the M and N buttons this will tell us if its a function key being pressed on the laptop keyboard. Well it will if a window doesnt open.:D
