As I'm sure most of us are now aware, the last few days in London have been pretty scary. With some areas looking like a disaster movie overnight it's an almost surreal experience.

There are some things you can do to try and help restore some semblance of sanity to the place, though, which I've mostly lifted from this article.

Firstly, there are groups of people organising clean-ups for most of the affected areas. Get onto the RiotCleanup site or check your social networks of choice for info on nearby cleanups.

Secondly, there are an awful lot of people acting the bollox at the minute because they think the police are too over-stretched to be able to do anything. This won't be the case for long. If you know of anyone who's been involved in looting or vandalism, contact your local police station and make a report. If you're not sure where to start, go here to find out how to contact your local Safer Neighbourhoods team.

You might also want to check out the likes of Catch A Looter or London Rioters to see if anyone you know or recognize is shown. Evidence of criminal activity is useless unless the police can identify those involved.

Last but not least, if you are active on social networks, do your best to ensure that only accurate information is being spread, so that anyone concerned for their safety when eg travelling home won't be misled by well-meaning but inaccurate information.

If anyone else has more useful info or advice, or other sites worth checking, please post them in-thread.

Please note that given the topic at hand this thread is for serious comments and advice only. Any jokes will earn the post an instant ban. If you feel compelled to make jokes about what's going on at the moment, do so elsewhere.
