Hi guys, a few 2 weeks ago i bought new tyres i rang the tyre center up and got quoted for 4 new continental tyres @ 340. so i went got them fitted and it came to 350 but i didn't bother saying anything as it was a day later and i was dealing with a different person than on the phone.

so everything was fine till saturday ( a rainy day) when i was driving and not once but twice on a slow bend and a round about the car understeered and felt off on every bend and round about on the way home, so when i got home i checked the tyres and they are not continental but are event tyres ( http://www.eventtyres.com/this-is-event ).

now at the moment my car is in the garage getting work done so havent bothered calling the tyre center about this till i get it back and go to them.
but i havent got a receipt only the balancing report.

    so what can i do?

    thanks niall

Very little I'd imagine unless you have a receipt saying 4 continental tyres have been fitted and paid for

without receipt not really much, unless garage staf/manager are honest, but it is not popular in these days. I think you had check tires before handover money.

Awful story, we can all slip up sometimes. It would be worth a phone call to them anyway, just to see what they had to say and to let them know that you are "on to them"!! If you get speaking to the original guy, let him know you were quoted for Contis, and now you got this other brand.....see what happens.

Call them now and tell them what happened. If it was me I'd expect them to send someone to the garage to change the tyres. If you kick up enough a fuss they might do this. Their mistake could have caused a serious accident so it is up to them to sort it out.

What size tyres are they? Then we can give you an idea if the €340 price could have related to continentals.

Also, The continental group owns several tyres brands/subsitiary companies and some people like to advertise economy brands from this group as continental tyres or 'made by continental' mso this could explain this situation, although I've no idea if these event tyres are part of the conti group or not.

some times new tyres are very poor in the wet for a few days as the oil coating etc that form during manufacture wears off, then they settle down

Bloody hell, I'm sorry to hear that OP.

When my mams car returned home with two new Event tyres on the front I was very angry with the tyre garage. I don't like tyre brands I have never heard of. Gave them a chance and tested them myself in her car. The front of the car would slip and slide at the first hint of lightly moderate acceleration in the damp. It was only a little 1.6 automatic Corolla and the thing just slipped! I would hate to think what would happen at speed in the wet.

Insisted that the next two tyres were a better brand, got some Hankook K4somethings, put them on the front first and the noticeable difference is, quite noticeable. They are now on the back, the front can do what it likes but at least the back is more planted.

Event are kak in my opinion.

Now my Dad comes home in his E-Class with unheard brand with an Alpine badge on it. Wow :/
My little Golf was the only thing that stuck to the damn road in the cold.

OP, was this a cash job or a card job? I can not imagine the Events being as expensive as the Continentals.
You could get someone to get a quote for 4 Event tyres with all the other work and then present the quote and the cards statement showing the difference.

When you turned up did you say I'm here to get the 4 continental tyres as discussed on the phone or something along those lines?
