Anyone have any ideas why a HTC Desire is chewing through the power, as in charging overnight and then an hour of playing with apps and its zapped.

Press Menu > Settings > About Phone > Battery > what's using the battery.

    Will tell you right there.

    Cell standby 29%
    Wi-Fi 28%
    Phone idle 27%
    Andriod System 8%

so its not anyone app that is doing it .... but its still a very short battery life.

Seems pretty strange tbh, maybe the battery is faulty.

Mine lasts the whole day usually.

I get a whole day out of it myself, at least. Have you changed ROM recently?

just checked this now and i am on the virtous rom and the bettery is very good 54% on display for me ,might minus the brightness for better results.

I put the rom on and full charge on sunday night and only charged it there,I had wifi on the whole time and 3g played around with apps and internet and gtalk few calls and messed around with the skins and listened to music on it and only charged it there so cant complain.

Automatic brightness should make it even better for you.

Was thinking that just sometimes when outside better with more brightness. That rom is great ffor battery life op if you want to give it a shot.

OP make sure you don't have a task killer of any kind installed (if on 2.2 or above) as it seriously adds to battery drain.

Actually looking at this again, those two seem high.

You probably have wifi on all the time when not in range and you're using 3G data at the same time in a poor reception area?

Poor reception and mobile data on uses a fair bit more battery + the wifi...

Turn them off with the power widget or get juice defender in the market, worth a shot.

I'm on CM7 and was told to set the wifi sleep policy to never. Apparently this does something to do with saving the battery...
