Mail in Lion

    Hi all,

This one is wrecking my head!

I have Lion installed and have a Gmail account set up in Mail 5.0.

My issue is that all mail that is "new" to my mac comes up as unread, even though I have read the item on my iPhone or iPad. They don't have this issue. If I read a new mail on the iPhone then it doesn't come up as unread on the iPad and vice versa.

But on the mac everything is unread. Sick of selecting all and marking as read each time I go to use the mac!!

Any one find this annoying and/or is there a solution?

    Ta

Is the account set up as POP or IMAP?

    POP!

    How do I change this?

    Thanks

Delete the account and start again. It should only take a minute. Mail preferences accounts. Highlight current gmail and click the little minus. Then hit the plus and follow instructions

Careful here. POP normally downloads mail from the server, so if you delete it locally you will no longer have these mails. Deleting from the server is the default option in Gmail when accessing via POP. Check your gmail account first to make sure that your POP client hasn't downloaded the mails and removed them from the server.

Thanks guys. Deleting the account from Mail app didn't delete mail from server and new account created as imap.

Correct procedure I'd imagine would be to take the original account offline first rather than deleting it. Then create the new IMAP version (make sure it's enabled on gmail).
That way, any mails that didn't come across into the new account could be dragged over manually before you delete the old account.
