    (B) What athletes are likely to qualify?

Paul Hession, Ciaran O Lionaird, Alistair Cragg, Fionnuala Britton, Steph Reilly, Derval O'Rourke have 'A' standards.

A few possibles might be Thomas Barr, Tori Pena, Joanne Cuddihy, David Gillick, Niamh Whelan, Ailis McSweeney, Ciara Mageean and Kelly Proper.

Maybe Fagan as well?? If he can stay injury free long enough to run a qualifying marathon time some time soon. It would be great to see him compete, he could have a fair stab at the Irish marathon record if he can get and stay fit.

    Definites:
    Paul Hession - 100m
    Ciaran O Lionaird - 3000m
    Alistair Cragg - 5000m
    Fionnuala Britton - 3000m steeplechase
    Steph Reilly - 3000m steeplechase
    Derval O'Rourke - 110m Hurdles

    Possibles:
    Thomas Barr 400m Hurdles
    Tori Pena Pole Vault
    Joanne Cuddihy 400m
    David Gillick 400m
    Niamh Whelan 200m
    Ailis McSweeney 100m
    Ciara Mageean 800m/1500m
    Kelly Proper Long Jump
    Martin Fagan Marathon

    What about these athletes:
    Steven Colvert
    Robert Heffernan
    Olive Loughnane
    Amy Foster
    Jason Smyth

and is there any possiblity of Jessie Barr qualifying and if she and her brother both qualified would it be the first time two siblings competed for Ireland in the same olympics or even have two siblings ever competed for Ireland in Olympics before.

I've no problem with anyone correcting anything.

havent they changed the rules now after the irish performances at the youths. will let some b standards go now for younger ones to get experience for Rio

Nope. Some commentators, like Eamonn Coghlan, said it was a good idea, so Paddy Hickey shot it down.

Mark Kenneally and Sean Connolly in the marathon both have a good chance having ran the B standard for the World Championships.
If Andrew Ledwith is training for it I would be very sure he can get the time first time out.

Olive Loughnane and Robert Heffernan also have A standards so there is 8 Irish athletes qualified.

    Most likely after that probably:
    David Gillick 400m
    Colin Griffin 50km Walk
    Martin Fagan Marathon
    Joanne Cuddihy 400m
    Jason Smyth 100m
    Women's 4x400m Relay
    Deirdre Ryan High Jump
    Tori Pena Pole Vault
    Mark Kenneally Marathon
    Sean Connolly Marathon
    Ailis McSweeney 100m

Hard to see anybody outside of those making it but then again few would have predicted Ciaran O'Lionaird and Stephanie Reilly to get the A Standard.

Forgive my ignorance, who is Stephanie Reilly and what event? A standard is fantastic.

What about Andrew Ledwith, surely he is class enough if connolly and Kenneally are..??
And Mark Christe, would he have a squeak at 5000?
13.26 this year, B standard 13.20 i think, so maybe that gap is too big but, being an optimist, never say never.. O Lionaird a prime example.

Steph is a Sli Cualann (Wicklow) athlete training out of Provence and runs the steeplechase.

A year in Provence? A novel approach to Olympic training. :)

Pat and Dick Hooper for Raheny Shamrocks ran in Moscow in 1980 together. They both ran in the Marathon. Dick also competed in the Maraton in 1984 and 1988
