Remote Central locking not working?

    Ok, this is the story.......

Have a 2001 Audi a4. For past while the central locking is not working, I hit the button on the fob and nothing.

Little bit annoying as i have to use the key, but when I open with key only drivers door opens and all other doors and boot remain closed. The only way to open them is stick key in ignition and turn on car. This is a pain really, especially when just want to open boot.

Now the strange thing is when locking the key locks all doors and boot.

A friend of mine thinks the key is just worn out and I need a new key?

Spare key is not a remote one so cant try that.

Just looking for a bit of advice before I approach any mechanic/garage.

Anybody here have any similar problems? Or any idea what may be wrong

is your interior light still working? if not it could be a fuse.
also door locks gave bother in some of the vag cars like on the mk4 golf. could be that either

Ya I think all lights are fine.

The thing that bugs me most is the way only one door will open when unlocking with key. Very awkward, especially for someone waiting in the pouring rain on the passenger side :)

Try disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes....

Thanks tried it but no difference I'm afraid.

Could it possibly be something as simple as needing a new key?

I don't think replacing the key will help, if it's opening one door and not the others the problem is more likely to be some sort of wiring fault in the drivers door or maybe a faulty motor. Bring it to a mechanic.
