Im female, almost 20. I have constant anger issues mainly relating back to my childhood but all this anger only surfaced when I started opening up to my boyfriend which was about 2 years ago. Since then I take everything out on him, when Im sad or angry I lash out, I hurt myself and also him. Please dont judge me, I know I shouldn't be hitting my boyfriend but I feel like I have no control over it. I only hurt myself when he is around (why do I do that ??). its not that our relationship is unhealthy, he is a great boyfriend. he does everything for me, its me that needs help. we have been together for over 3 years. He just recently gave me an ultimatum, get help or he is leaving me.

I went to the doctor a few months ago looking for anti-depressants and the doctor wouldn't prescribe them saying Im just a teenager I will grow out of it but I haven't. I don't know what to do and I feel too embarrassed to go to counselling because I feel like its not going to help. I emailed Pieta House, they said that it might not be depression just a mood disorder, but I should make an appointment. I dont want to waste those peoples time because Im not constantly sad, it happens every now and again.

    I really need some advice

    Hi there.

Depression is not something that can be diagnosed via an email or over this site.We cannot give diagnosis so Id take the advice you have already been given, make an appointment with a trained counselor and go have a chat.Dont be worrying about wasting their time either.
