I'm 17 and I'm working to get some money for college next year, hence why I will be using the bus. Can I get the student fare as I'm clearly not over 30 or whatever the limit is. I don't even look 17  I'll be using it for quite a while so it won't be just a "one-off".

It's more so the ticket I'm looking for. EDIT: When I said "next year", I mean the next academic year, which is this year... if you know what I mean? I've done my Leaving Cert.

    Ok, so

no you cant have a student card unless you are a student and you cant have a student ticket without a student card.

edit:you'll have to wait until you stop work and start being a student

You need the proper student travel card to get a student ticket. You can only get that if you are a registered student in a recognised third level college or a secondary school

If you are caught without the proper ID

    1. 50 euro fine on bus or 100 euro fine on train
    2. Ticket will be confiscated and you walk home
    3. Court summons if fine not paid
    4. No J1 or visa wavier entry to US if convicted in court

I'm getting a rather strange aura here....a lá Doris Stokes.....The term "Knowledge Based Economy" keeps flashing up in red neon....:)

If there was a teenager fare or a pre-college student fare you could get that but there is no special/discounted fare available to you as a working adult(in the eyes of CIE)

Afaik the scholar ticket only applies during school terms and you need an id stamped/endorsed by your school.
