Extra Modules

    Hello all,

Just wondering about extra modules we can do for second year. I want to study European Cinema this year, and I'll have enough modules I'll be able to drop from Spanish anyway, so it's no problem credit-wise.

Just wondering how I'd go about in applying for the course ? Who I'd contact, what I'd do ? I've no clue, to be honest. Can't find anything on the official site about it either, so I'm stumped.

"Extra" modules might not be exactly the right term for what I'm looking for, as I'd only be doing the same amount of credits as I would without European Cinema (from taking up non-compulsory Spanish ones) but y'all know what I mean.

    Any help appreciated, gracias.

European cinema is offered to all german, spanish and french students, it's counted as a module from which ever language dept you are in. So if you are a spanish student, it's counted as a module from their department, afaik. So you just register for it as you normally would for other spanish modules. At least, that's what I did when I did it a few years ago.

Cheers. I can't find it anywhere as part of the normal modules for Spanish anyway  Anything I'm glaringly missing, by any chance?

Hmmm, it should be there? Maybe it isn't offered to spanish students actually, I only know one spanish student who did it but her was also a european studies student so maybe he took it as one of their modules.. Can you email your year coordinator or anyone?

might be useful to check your timetable if you havent already, cos if it clashes with any then its not possible to do it.

I'm doing music hoping to do two history modules next year,I was told I have to get written permission off the music department and bring it to the history, although seeing as yours is tied in with the languages im not sure how that would work

Might be it. Actually, I had thought before that it wasn't linked to any specific course (ie languages) and thought anybody could do it. That's what I was told by the Academic Advisory office last year (if I recall correctly, that is)
I'll try look for some people to email about it anyway, thanks.

Funny enough, I can't find the module code on the timetable  I'm not at home at the minute so can't go and find it out, but when I looked before I couldn't find it there. Thanks though, wonton. I might need to get written permission then in that case too. It'd be handy if the AAO checked emails and stuff during the summer!

I think it is offered to everyone, just that it's on the list of courses available to language students without having to request special permission, at least it was when I did it..

AAO are open during the summer, have you emailed them? they replied to my email about 2 weeks ago..

From looking at that you should be grand man, it's co-taught by the spanish department.

Time table at the bottom too

Cheers Michelle :D Yeah I did, I guess they're just on holidays at the moment. I got automatic replies saying they're back in business on the 22nd.

Nice one wonton! Looks like it'll be no hassle for me to do it then in that case.

    Cheers, both!

European cinema is back this year?
Huh, you're lucky, so. it wasn't offered for the 2010-11 year!
