Did anyone else take part in this on Saturday? A few of us did and we were all very impressed with the course and the general level of organisation. The atmosphere was very friendly and there was some very welcome support from the locals along the route. There was also an incredible spread of homemade cakes and scones at the finish, something that all races should aspire to imo!

I'd highly recommend it as a warm up for Gaelforce or similar events. Although it's a much shorter course (5k run, 1k kayak, 16k cycle) you get to practice the transitions and it was good to get a bit of practice in on the kayak. It was the friendly atmosphere that made the race so enjoyable though, not to mention the incredible luck they had with the weather. When we were dropoping the bikes at lunch time it was absolutely miserable but by three o'clock the sun was blazing down.

The only criticism I'd have is of the rather poor level of communication in advance of race day. Although you could register through Runireland there was no bulletin sent out in advance which meant that you had to depend on their website and Facebook for info. Everything ran like clockwork on the day though so it's a small quibble.

    Anyway, here's the link: http://www.cavankayakarun.com/index.html

Done this event myself, was my full first mutli-discipline event about 4 weeks after doing the cycle leg of muckno triathlon.

Really enjoyable event, well run and nice track, some good testing hills on the run. Struggled with the kayak leg in keeping the thing in right direction and even managed to ground it on the wee island turning point! Finished it in 1hr 18mins which i was very pleased with. Been 7 weeks since i got on a bike for first time in 20 odd years and 4 weeks since i was back running a bit.

Great atmosphere at event, well run and plenty of local support along the way, big community event it seems and they all turned out. Weather was great.

I'm only disappointed i didn't get involved in these events earlier and have the Gael Force to look forward to as a number of people seemed to be using this a warm up event.
