I would never have believed this had I not seen it with my own eyes. Yesterday in the park 6 guys playing football tennis and they were the Irish National team training for the world championships. It was 3 on 3 and is played on a tennis court without the racquets. The idea being you got to kick it or head it over the net within three attempts and it can only bounce once.

    More here......

I thought under water hockey was an obscure sport.........

Are there any other zany sports out there? Does football tennis take the biscuit? Is it April 1st?

I enjoy nothing more then an afternoon watching the MarquesOfQueensburyMotorShowJumpingTrials.
Strap a 50hp outboard to yer horse and put it in the boxing ring with 11 sheep and a border collie. Feel the excitment building with each slice and the roar of the crowd when the dog eventually pulls the wool over the horses eyes.
    Makes me hungry every time.

    I'm older than Minecraft goats.

Only the greatest sport known to man

The name of the game is Gnomes!

Your playing area/pitch is any decent sized residential estate (bonus points if its a dodgy area)

You need a minimum of three players to play this game but the game can easily accommodate many more.....in fact the maximum number of players in play for each set is decided by the size of the residents front gardens.

The players meet up and choose the garden of a house that is occupied for the first set and then those participating walk into the garden and adopt typical gnome poses.....you all instinctively know the kind of poses I'm talking about - fishing gnome, wheeling a wheelbarrow gnome, goofily standing there gnome etc

These poses are held rigidly while the occupants of the house come out act amused/call the police/threaten to physically harm you etc

The first person to lose their nerve....and somebody will....and then breaks for it....gets a beating from the other players

at the end of three sets the winner(s) are those that are not in pain.

its a great game as you stand to win very little but like all really good games you could lose quite a lot especially if you play it somewhere really dodgy

That zany enough for ya boss?

One of those lads plays ball with me in Maynooth sometimes. He's not great. So I wonder how I go about taking his place on this team...
