Dunnes sells 2 types of Kinder Bueno multipacks: one has four bars and costs 1.89. The other has "4 bars + 1 EXTRA FREE" and costs 2.09. I thought that "extra free" would mean just that? :P

I'd imagine that prices have changed between the two different barcodes, and one hasn't been updated yet, it could be that the 4 bar pack should be 2.09.

If you bring it up, I'm sure they'll amend the price of one of them on the system so that they match.

    Nothing is free .
The more packs that Dunnes buy from their suppliers , the cheaper they are .

They pass some of this on to the customer by offering an extra bar at a discounted price .

The "extra free" has nothing to do with Dunnes "offering" an extra bar. It's written in bright yellow on the packet so it's coming from the manufacturer.

The manufacturer or distributor could have increased the price, which then may have been passed on by dunnes.

A manufacturer could charge more knowing the retailer will see an increase in turnover, but they might have fixed margins so put it up.

Most marketing stuff on packs is legally meaningless
    "new & improved"
    "best in its class/range"
    "premium"
    "quality"
    "great value"

Dunne's are great at upping their prices but making it sound like you're getting a deal.

For years 3 free range chicken breasts were €6 then about 2 months ago they upped it to €7 but stuck big 'Low Price' stickers beside them
