Amtico/Spacia - Vinyl Flooring?

Does anyone have any information on Amtico flooring, I'm particularly wondering about their new "cheaper range!" Spacia... Is this Vinyl flooring?
We're currently building a large open plan kitchen/dining and family room extension to the house and just cant decide on flooring for it as DH wants to tile the whole room and I think wooden floors are the way to go as we've two very small kids who spend 90% of their day on the floor playing and I think tiles are just too dangerous and too cold for them. Builder told DH that wooden floors would look great for about a year then go to pot as the amount of traffic in that room would have them destroyed in no time. Anyway, I saw this flooring and thought it was a happy medium but it's VERY expensive, even their cheaper range is €42 per sq yard.
Has anyone used it before and what did you think of it? Know where I might get a better price for it or any other brands of vinyl that looks good?

    Hi Gissy,

Yes, we got Amtico for our kitchen about 4 years ago and it's great. Previously there had been a wooden floor but that didn't take the wear and tear, including the dog's paws!! Even though we had it re-sanded it could not cope. Amtico still seems as good as new and exactly the same as a wooden floor. We did look at Specia also and that seemed just as good. I think the only obvious difference was a shorter guarantee. Maybe 10 years and 20 for Amtico? However, the look of the Amtico just seemed more natural. Hope this helps?

    Hi Tom,

Thanks for replying! Can you tell me or are you allowed to do so on this site (I'm new!) where you got the flooring, was it in Dublin?

Did you go for the wooden floor look? Did it turn out looking like a wooden floor?

Is this a brand thing also or is Vinyl flooring just as nice?

Sorry to be a pain but I'm meant to have all my decisions made this week and not good under pressure!!!

No, I'm in London but am on this site because of my mother's house in Cork. Yes, went for the wood look and I don't think you can tell the difference. Very pleased with it. Not sure exactly what Amtico is...it is laid in individual slats and fitted together. I guess it may be some kind of vinyl but other cheaper stuff we looked at just didn't seem as good. Have you tried their web site?

Thanks for your help Tom, I've looked up their website and I think I'm going to go with it now... The tiles aren't working out that much cheaper and I think this looks great, went to see a showroom of it yesterday and it's fab!

    Thanks for replying !
