I'm looking for an interesting sounding upright piano instrument I can run in Protools .

My machine is PPC so that might cut down on options.

    Any suggestions ?

If you run Kontakt (I assume you can?) these are the best uprights on the market, IMO:

Kontakt is for Intel only as I understand.

:( That's a real shame... you're missing out on so much amazing stuff there Paul...

Actually, it looks like they support other things as well and even have their own custom player:

You might just email them and ask... they make VERY mixable sample sets.

The Fazioli is my go to sample set for pianos:

    So highly recommended.

They just "feel" real. I can't really explain it.

A cursory google suggests Kontakt 3 was the last PPC compatible player ... I might see can I track one down ...

Am I wrong in thinking that PPC Macs are pretty much dead as dodos? (I know almost nothing about macs, I'll happily admit.) I just read that you can still get 3 working on PPC via NI directly... maybe just email NI and ask :)

I'd be pretty lost w/o Kontakt, especially for things like this:

    http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/fatsosynthsvol1.html

Amazing sounds, better than the software synths IMO, and pretty darn cheap!

I use mine as a host for a HD3 system - for a layout of 650 Euro it's far from Dodo like !

    ;)

I just meant aren't mac discontinuing support, as are a lot of software vendors...?

It also occurred to me that even if you get K3 working it may not support newer Kontakt libraries ... I think you may be stuck here... I'd def start with Imperfect... if anyone knows a way, it'll be them...

Forget about using anything less than Kontact 4 in protools. K3 really flakey:mad:

even K4 aint the best in PT.

advice, grab a copy of reaper demo and re-wire K3 into PT. you'll get much better VI performance, especially on bigger kontakt libraries and you dont have to worry about PT being a spanner with it like you would the RTAS version.

native instruments "upright" library aint too bad for pop/rock

I was in Waltons today playing around with the pianos.

They all seem woefully out of tune - how can they sell pianos like that. Paul, how do they sell pianos like that?

I was also playing a Roland stage piano (didn't check which model) close to 5k and it sounded awful.

My Korg stage has a great sound. I've been storing it at a friends for over two years so I've never recorded anything on my PC daw with it (I've been using Front Piano) . I know cheesy cheap Casio home keyboards were used a lot in the 80s and 90s, because the sound is so thin, they sat well in the mix. Front Piano sounds like a dog.

Just listening to some ABC - Just listening to some ABC is all I'm saying. Something that I would have really hated but now sounds like genius.

I have to say. The Korg vintage stage, they've got in musicmaker at the minute is the nicest stage I've ever played. It's even got really great strings.

Unless a rich relative dies and leaves me something - or there's a huge riot and looting thing like in London, I don't see myself getting my hands on one in the near future.
