Moving iTunes to a new laptop problem

    Hi all,
My girlfriend wants to move her iTunes library from her old laptop onto her new laptop. Her iTunes is obviously a mix of apps, music purchased from the app store, ripped cds, and a lot of downloaded music (which is not backed up anywhere). I've copied her iTunes folder, and put it onto her new laptop, but the new iTunes will not play most of her music. Any ideas what I can do?
She doesn't have the "copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library" ticked.
I tried to consolidate her library but there is not enough room on her hard drive to do it. And even with deleting everything that can be deleted/moved, there still isn't enough room.
    Any ideas for me!?

When I moved the folder onto the new laptop, I change the folder location to point at the one I had moved across. I also made sure to the add the folder to the library.

Are the songs showing up in iTunes and not playing or are they not there at all?

    1. "Tick" Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library
    2. Make sure iTunes media folder location is specified properly.

Ticking the copy files to media folder when adding to library option won't move the current music to the media folder will it?

Whoops!! Forgot to say, after the steps 1 & 2 above, go into "File" and "Add Folder to Library". Then select folder from dialgue box.

And what folder should I be selecting from the dialogue box?? Sorry you have me kind of confused here. I can't see how this will work!

The folder containing the music you placed on your girlfriends laptop.

Thanks mate, but that isn't working for me as there isn't enough room on the hard disk to consolidate the library.
I have just spent the evening getting rid of anything I could to try free up some space and I still haven't enough room, I don't know what to do

Try breaking the library up into chunks. Transfer blocks of music to an external hard drive. Move the remaining tracks over, then rinse and repeat...
