    Hi all,

I am looking for some lead shot, about 10kg of it, for diving. I have been told that it is usually cheaper to get it from gun shops than dive shops which are charging €9 a kg

Can anyone advise where to get some new / used / how to make some cheaper than €9 a kg

    thanks
    Paulo

Try Ardee sports company. I know they usually keep some loose shot around. Lead as with most metals is not cheap at the moment though. Good luck

Go to any garage that specialises in car wheels and tyre replacement and the like.... they usually have buckets of lead that they dont mind sharing for free.

Although if say you want 10 kg you might get shown the door. Just tell him you want a handful or two, if they ask what its for just say "fishing". THen onto the next garage for another couple of handfuls ;)

or if your really adventurous you could take apart a car battery but remember the solution is 35% sulfuric acid so don't get it on yourself or you'll hurt yourself. there is alot of lead in them though. if i were going to do it i would have a large container to pour the acid solution into and then dilute it with alot of water and then add bicarbonate soda to neutralize the acid. but be sure it is diluted alot or you may get a violent reaction.

i take no responsibility for the actions of others this is for information purposes, what you do with the information is all on you.:)

Surely roofing lead would be easier to get hold of and more suitable for making diving weights?? Just a suggestion.. Not sure wat its priced like but its readily available in all hardwares.

    thanks for your reply.

I have LOADS of lead and lead diving blocks. The problem is that a solid block of lead can be quite uncomfortable. Whereas the lead shot conforms to your body shape and is thus much more comfortable
