Within-subjects ANCOVA?

Hello all, it's that time again - dissertation time...

I have a repeated measures design although technically I should be covarying for experience (a popular puzzle). The problem is I know that experience should not (and it doesn't) have an effect on the main experimental manipulation. A repeated measures ANCOVA is not as powerful as a regular repeated measures ANOVA and I am wondering about some ways around this.

I have consider running the ANCOVA - then reporting that yes, there is no effect. Then running the ANOVA to discuss the main effects although I think this may be committing a family-wise error.

Should I just stick to the less powerful repeated measures ANCOVA or analyse my data using one test for the experimental manipulation and another to see if participant's experience had any effect on their scores?

    Any advice greatly appreciated.
