Iphone network/hardware problem

I had my first iPhone 4 for about 9 months and then I started to have issues with it. It was having difficulty picking up the o2 signal. It would tell me I had no service and then when I went to setting-carrier o2 would show as checked but still no network.
anyway i lost the phone and got a replacement which i synced to my itunes last week and the exact same problem is happening. Im going to bring the phone to o2 who will most likely send it back to apple and give me another replacement.
however is it possible that my itunes cause the problem or just a concidence that both phones has the same issue? if i get another one or apple fix my phone i dont wanna sync it again if it may happen?!

very doubtful that itunes is the cause of this, it's a piece of software at the end of the day.

Sounds to me like a network issue, but if not, try restoring your phone as a new phone and see if that does anything.

The phone is brand new the problem started as soon as I activated it.
