Former True Blood star Denis O'Hare has teased that a return to the HBO show is definitely still on the cards.
O'Hare portrayed the vampire king of Mississippi Russell Edgington during the show's third season, and has reminded fans that Russell is still alive, despite having been buried in cement during the season finale.
"I think Alan Ball was asked recently about Russell's return and he said, 'Russell's not dead'," O'Hare teased during the recent TCA press tour, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "And I can't do better than that so I'll just reiterate what he said."
"It's a great character and I feel he hasn't been able to completely express his dreams yet, " O'Hare explained. "I think more than any of the other vampires that season he had ambition and huge dreams.
"I"m still attracted to that, and I think he need to fulfill whatever it is he's aiming for and go out in a blaze of glory in whatever it is he needs to do."
The actor recently claimed that he expects to return as Russell at the start of the fifth season next year.
Last month, O'Hare married his longterm boyfriend Hugo Redwood at a ceremony in New York City.

    :)

I'd love to see Russell back, he was a great character. The pulling out the newsreader's heart scene was brilliant!

I agree wholeheartedly. It was a great bit of TV - its why I love TV shows much more than movies. Far more scope in TV shows to frame a great scene like that.

    Source - HBO's press release

HBO has renewed the hit show True Blood for a 12-episode fifth season, it was announced today by Michael Lombardo, president, HBO Programming. Created by Alan Ball, the series will begin production of new episodes later this year in Los Angeles, with debut set for summer 2012.
"I am thrilled that True Blood continues to enjoy a phenomenal reception from both subscribers and critics," noted Lombardo. "Alan Ball and his gifted team have devised the greatest thrill ride on TV."
"I remain amazed and delighted by the enthusiasm of our viewers," says Ball. "I can't imagine having more fun than this."
Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, the Emmy(R)-nominated show takes place at a time when vampires have come out of the coffin, and follows the on-and-off romance between waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people's thoughts, and 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer). Series creator Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy(R)-winning HBO series Six Feet Under) is also an executive producer of the show, which is based on the bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.
The 12-episode fourth season of True Blood, which launched June 26, has inspired critical raves, with USA Today calling it "exuberantly entertaining," as well as hailing the "superb crew of writers and actors," while the Washington Post called the show "a rollicking good scream" and "addictive."
True Blood recently received four Emmy(R) nominations, including Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series (Alfre Woodard).
Season four credits: True Blood was created by Alan Ball; based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris; executive producers, Alan Ball, Gregg Fienberg; co-executive producers, Brian Buckner, Mark Hudis, Nancy Oliver, Raelle Tucker, Alexander Woo; co-producer, Christina Jokanovich.

    http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/09/13/true-blood-scoop-season-five-preview/

Since the citizens of Bon Temps dropped like flies (RIP Jesus, Marnie, Nan, and possibly Tara) on True Blood‘s surprising finale, season 5 will introduce fresh meat and showcase some familiar faces. “There will be a very significant, strong, mysterious woman at the center of one of our main stories next year,” says co-executive producer Raelle Tucker. “That will be a very familiar and compelling character. It may be someone you’ve heard of before.” We will also once again visit the fairy world touched upon at the beginning of season 4. Says Tucker, “Season 5 will explore more fairies, new fairies, fairies in a way you haven’t really seen fairies. We will all, as well as Sookie, come to understand fairies more than in previous seasons.”
Scott Foley’s Patrick, who we met in the finale, will bring trouble to Terry (Todd Lowe) and Arlene (Carrie Preston). Says Tucker, “His arc has to do with Terry’s past coming back to haunt Bon Temps and Arlene and their life they’re trying to set up together.” The identity of the wolf seen growling at Sam (Sam Trammell) in the final moments will be revealed — and, according to Tucker, is “someone you have never met before.” Tucker, who wrote the season finale, won’t confirm, though, if said werewolf is Alcide’s (Joe Manganiello) father, Jackson, who is featured in book 5 of Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse novels. The unearthed King of Mississippi, Russell Edgington (Denis O’Hare), will be back. “Russell is not dead,” says Tucker. “It’s safe to assume the king of Mississippi is not gone for good.” Also look for former Fellowship of the Sun leader — and now vampire — Steve Newlin (Michael McMillian). Teases Tucker, “I will say that Steve’s reason for returning to Jason is not at all what you expect.”
Then there’s Sookie, who blew off three supernatural hunks to be alone. Fans of Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and Sookie’s romance will be sad to know that her independent streak will continue next year. “While there will always be romance in Sookie’s life, Sookie at the moment is choosing herself over all of them,” reveals Tucker. “I think that will continue to play into season 5.“ At least there’s the potential for a new bromance — or a Thelma & Louise-style fugitive friendship — between Eric and Bill (Stephen Moyer) now that they’ve killed Nan Flanagan (Jessica Tuck). Teases Tucker, “The consequences of their actions in the finale are going to chase them for a while next year.”

There was a guy in America who had his head blown off with a shotgun, lost like 30% of his brain, but still pulled through and finished college and got his degree!

I'm excited about the Season 5 as hell. However, I'm not happy about Russell's comeback. Well, he IS a great character but you cannot fight him forever.. imho.

I had been expecting him to come back since he was buried. I think he'll make a great bad guy for the next season. Wasn't a fan of the witch to be honest and Russell is a much better Character/Actor.

I would expect more focus to be put back on Bill and a lot more on Al Seed ( Natural progression of suitors for Sookie) I would assume that they will finally give a more prominent roll to the fairy things.

Italian actress Valentina Cervi will join the cast as a series regular, she will portray Salome, an ancient vampire who's not only intelligent but a skilled seductress.

Lucy Griffiths is joining the cast of True Blood as a series regular. She will play Nora, another vampire sired by Godric, making her the vampire sister of Eric (Alexander Skarsgard). Nora is described as intelligent and intimidating, along with being a good liar, which serves her well as a double agent within the Vampire Authority. Though she loves Eric deeply, she's dedicated her life to a higher purpose.

Chris Meloni, who left Law & Order: Special Victims Unit earlier this year, will become a series regular on True Blood. It will be the New Yorker's first role since he handed in his badge as Detective Elliot Stabler in the long-running Dick Wolf police procerdural.

Meloni will join the cast of the bloodsucking HBO drama in season five as an "ancient powerful vampire who holds the fate of Bill and Eric in his hands."

The 50-year-old, who played Eddie Carbone in A View From The Bridge at the Gate Theatre in Dublin, previously played Chris Keller in HBO's uncompromising prison drama, Oz, and is currently in negotiations to play a major role in the forthcoming Superman reboot, Man of Steel.

He should be a great addition to the cast, can't wait! SVU has been so bad for the last few seasons, think he made the right decision to leave.

    http://www.tvline.com/2012/01/true-blood-season-5-spoilers-alcide-jason/

1 | Janina Gavankar revealed that “a major thing happens to Luna early in the season, and it’s going to change her life forever.”
2 | The cast learned that Chris Meloni was Bon Temps-bound last month at a table read, news that elicited “gasps” throughout the room, recalled Gavankar. “We’re so excited to have him.”
3 | Alcide’s days of playing Mr. Nice Guy are over. “As you saw at the end of Season 4, he’s not taking anyone’s s— anymore,” said the man-beast’s portrayer, Joe Manganiello. “Now you’re going to see an Alcide who’s going to slam you up against the wall and do his thing. Who doesn’t like being slammed up against the wall, right?” Asked to clarify his use of the word “slam” — i.e. is it a euphemism for, ahem, another s-word — Manganiello cracked a devilish smile and replied, “It could be a fun slam. And it could be an angry slam. You never know?” He then reminded us that, “Alcide is single.”
4 | The latest True Blood script Manganiello read contains “some really fun [Alcide-Sookie] stuff,” he revealed. “Stuff that makes you really nervous… I’m watching my words really carefully.”
5 | Ryan Kwanten hinted that Jason may have bitten off more than he could chew with regard to his romance with Jessica. “As you know, anyone who gets involved with Jason better have her wits about her,” he said. “But I think in this case, it’s Jason who better watch out. The tables have finally turned.”
6 | Where do you go after spending half of Season 4 being raped by a werepanther? “Even that can be topped,” teased Kwanten. “Jason was very lucky to survive; he was down for the count. He has a desire to life. I admire that in a man.”
