Slash Sound on a budget?

I have been listening to a lot of Slash's playing lately and I was wondering if someone were to attempt to capture his tone on a budget, what would they need to do?

Basically Marshall and LP with Duncans are pre-requisites, but not being able to afford 4k for a slash signature lp and having no need for a 100w afd marshall head, what do you think would be a good way to go?

Just curious to see what people think would be a decent subsitute?

Amp wise I'd say the Blackstar HT20, a very decent rock amp for the moolah

Guitar wise I'd try and find a second hand Japanese Burny, Tokai, Edwards, Signature or Greco Les Paul off Ebay. They'd give a Gibbo a run for their money and can be picked up for near enough to the same price as a new Epiphone.

Edit: Heres a really nice one http://www.adverts.ie/guitar-bass/signature-str-1-hb-gibson-les-paul-copy/769799. I have no affiliation to this ad or seller.

Getting a Slash sig Les Paul and an AFD amp would not get you Slash's sound as he never used them on any of his recordings or live.
I guess he might be using them for the endorsements sake nowadays.

Any geetar with mahogany body, passive medium output humbuckers, valve amp turned way up and dialed in quite trebely and a V30 speaker in the cabinet will be more than enough.
If bedroom volume is a must then I'd say a modeller/software emulation will get you closest.

Slash's sound is almost entirely from his pick attack (accentuated by the trebely amp tone) and his phrasing.
Slash and Van Halen are probably the two guitarists that are sited most for their gear but it's actually their playing that people struggle to capture, the tone is actually quite easy to get.

In fairness I can fairly mimic his playing style. Not saying I am an expert but I am a decent bluffer. I suppose as I am a strat player I am miles away from capturing the tonal quality at this moment in time, but I had a Tokai LP Custom in days gone by and I found it to be a good les paul but not really "Slashy" per se.

Anyway I am more asking out of curiosity than anything else. There is a lot of good knowledgeable guitarists on this forum so thought I would put it out there

Ive done a bit of experimenting on this myself on a vintage les paul i sold recently
ampwise, i was using a line 6 spidervalve so i could model as close as i could

But before i started i stuck in nwe 500 k alpha pots & sprague .022uf orange drop capacitors which i think is half the battle ive tried loads of caps & i thought these sounded the closest

Tried whatever pickups i had but found these 3 came closest

Gfs alnico 2 classic 2 , didnt really get as close as i thiught it would
    but alright

I had a set of dimarzio virtual paf (DP 196 Dp197) lying around
but they were alnico 5s so i swapped the mags for alnico2s
    This came very close
also had a dimarzio 36 anniversary neck pup (dp103) & swapped the mag
    this sounded as good

I now have the slash sig pickups in my edwards & they really nail it
but sounds slightly muddy in the neck so ill have to order .015 orange drops

Lower the tone on your guitar also, always found it got me closer to he's sound.
