Excuse a guy with no knowledge of procedure or piloting.

    Why would they divert?

Possible unknown other problems? or another reason?

an AHRU is an attitude and heading reference unit without this you can lose your primary flight display and have to use a mechanichal standby gauge. ATR's have two AHRU's so i can only think they diverted to Dublin as Aer Arann's main engineering stations are DUB and GWY ( more engineers and A/C spares ). Here is a brief description of the purpose of the AHRU http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Attitude_and_heading_reference_system .
