    Hi!

All I can say is STAY away from Medical Geography, if its on offer this year. Think your safe enough as I think the lecturer has retired. The CA is horrendous. 100 statements and you've to say whether they are true, false or some of them maybe a conflicting argument so neither true or false. It is NEGATIVELY MARKED! so in other words on certain occasions students could have passed if it wasn't negative marked! The lecturer didn't give a crap either, and more or less told people that they'd repeating in the summer regardless of how well they were doing in their other modules:mad:

Oh and for the research project: DO IT during the first semester if you can! its a lot harder to do it during the second semester because all your doing during the first is listening to people freaking out about it and it makes going back after the january exams harder to do because you have had friends working you into a knot worrying about doing it in semester 2!

    Good Luck! :D

All I can say other that that is its a lot easier than 2nd year AS LONG as you do your CA and all you'll be grand! :)

Medical geog isn't an option for us, so we're all good there.
Can you give me more info on the research project, didn't see it in the list of modules, but i might just have missed it? Or is that the compulsary module?

I've already picked my modules, just wondering if you have any info on the following ones:The city in film, Approaches to human geography, Geographies of the crisis, Approaches to Cultural Geography, Geography and Education, and the compulsary module that you sign up for in September.
    Any info appreciated! :)

Unless things have changed a bit from last year - Yep its the compulsory module. You can either do it in Semester 1 or 2. You'll be give the topics to choose from in the first two weeks of starting college. Good choice - loads to choose from - something for everyone! :)
The city in film, Approaches to human geography, Geographies of the crisis, Approaches to Cultural Geography, Geography and Education
^^I didn't do any of these, but from what I heard from friends that have done these, I think I remember raging half way in to the semester that I didn't do them.

My other subject was English and I remember I couldn't do the geographies of education or the approaches to cultural geog because it clashed with my english set timetable:rolleyes: So I don't know what your other subject is - just be very careful of not having clashes :)

    Best of Luck!:D

Hey thanks for the reply. Do you have feedback on any of these:
    Approaches to Human Geography
    Environmental Politics
Geographies of the Crisis (I know you don't ceez)
    Climate Change
    The Irish Diaspora

    Thanks!

I didn't do any of those either. My best advice I can give you is:

    1) Read up on all the modules on offer. Scrap the ones you have absolutely no interest in.

    2) Sort out and divide the rest of the modules you are interested in for Semester 1 and Semester 2. Check to see none of these clash with your other subject. If some do scrap them out of the pic.

    3) Look and decide on which you would prefer modules with a good bit of continuous assessment or almost solely exam.

4)Going by last years structure to the geog course. Decide on the compulsory module. Do you want to do it in Semester 1 or do it in Semester 2? Makes it easier then in picking the rest i.e if your doing the compulsory module in Semester 1, you've just to pick 2 other modules for that semester.

    Plan 1

    Semester 1
Compulsory Module + choose 2 other modules
    Semester 2
    Choose 3 modules
    _____________________
    = 6 modules

    Plan 3

    Semester 1
    Choose 3 modules
    Semester 2
Compulsory Module + choose 2 other modules
    ______________________
    = 6 modules

    5) Best piece of Advice: Pick what your interested in - if your anyway interested in the module - thats half the battle:cool:

    Good Luck:D

Bumping an old thread to make it relevant for the coming year.

I am on Erasmus for the moment in the Netherlands but this thread may be useful for incoming third year students.

So what modules are people picking for third year geography and can any previous third years give us information about the modules?
