If I was ever asked which artist I most identify with I would say Mark Oliver Everett from the Eels.

The guy is one of the most talented people on the planet. I would put his lyrics up there with dare I say it . . . Bob Dylan:P

I guess he is just an ordinary guy who has gone through extraordinary times (his autobiography "Things the Grandchildren Should Know" is very touching) and it comes through in his beautiful songs and albums.

His songs can make you laugh and cry, he is constantly moving forward and is as talented a musician as you could get. I guess some people may not quite enjoy his voice, but I think it has character.

He always comes across as a good guy and I for one am delighted to have be able to enjoy his journey so far.

So come on Eels fans, give Mr E his dues

Electro Shock Blues, Daisies of the Galaxy and Souljacker are my favourite albums, they're three really great ones. But his later stuff, I dunno. He's not really trying any more is he? It sounds a lot like he's got his formula and he's sticking to it now. He still writes good songs, but he's got his guitar sound and his vocal sound and whatever else, and he's not trying new stuff any more so much.

Earlier Eels is really fantastic, and you can tell he was really trying to get a bit different each time. But more recently, I dunno...

I only have Souljacker, Beautiful Freak and Hombre Lobo, all of which are pretty great. I remember sticking on Souljacker for the first time without knowing anything about Eels and was blown away by the quality of the songs.

I never got into their music but his book was an enjoyable read.

Think the last three albums haven't matched the ones that went before in terms of consistency but there's still great stuff on them.

Hard to pick out a favourite, I always go back to Daisies of the Galaxy, Shootenany and Souljacker though.

My favourite artist of the last 30 years, bar none. I'd agree that he appears to have settled into a trusted formula with recent recordings, but every time he tours he radically changes the way the songs are performed, in stark contrast to virtually everyone else!
Blinking Lights is my favourite, incredibly strong for a double album.

Only knew a handful of songs up to around a year ago. A friend gave me a lend of "Things the Grandchildren should know", and the greatest hits album.

Read through the book in 2 nights, couldn't put it down. Such a tragic story yet a great read.

Put the album on straight after and still can't pick a bad song off it (Meet the eels Part 1)

At Oxegen this year I had to choose between Foo Fighters and Eels. Like a fool I decided to see Foos and really didn't enjoy it. My mate who did go said it was fantastic. :(

Still discovering Eels, but love what I know so far.

Ya I went to see Eels instead of Foo's, phenomenal they were. He seemed to relish playing in front of a small crowd in the tent. Saw 1 song of the Foo's, but ended up going back into see Eels.

    Wonderful, wonderful music.

Love the Eels. I too ended up going to watch the Foos instead of the Eels at Oxegen. The Foos were great but I'll always be wondering what the Eels were like!

I saw the Eels in San Francisco a few years back. I was totally jetlagged but it was a brilliant gig all the same.

I'd love to see them again.

What an awesome band. The autobiography is really good too. I just downloaded the best of 'meet the eels'.

Saw them last year in Amsterdam Paradiso. Always a pleasure. A truly great artist. I love E and his tender tender heart.
